March UFO update

Hello everyone,

Well, it's the end of the month and time to report on my completed UFO for the Patchwork Times challenge. I'm delighted to say that I did complete my project this month. The project of the month was the Michael Miller Christmas Tree Fairy panel. I didn't have a pattern, just made one up as I went along, but I'm delighted with how it turned out. I am posting a couple photos to share with all of you. More news in a day or two, as I get organized again, life has been crazy, but that's nothing new around here. Would love to see more patterns, using these flower fairy panels, so if anyone knows of some, please let me know.

I have other completed projects for March and will get photos of all of them tomorrow and share them. Have some fun things lined up for April, and since there is still snowon the ground, it looks like I'll have time for some of them before I can do much work outside. More news soon.

Hello everyone,
It's the end of the month and time to report on completed projects. I'm in UFO challenges on 3 different groups and I've completed all my listed work. Unfortunately I can't show you photos of all of my projects, as the rechargeable battery for my camera won't hold a charge long enough to take even one photo! I'm so annoyed. I have photos of most projects, but the last two will have to wait until my new battery comes later this week.

Here is a summary of the sewing I did this month.

I sewed 6 tops for Quilts for Kids. In one of my Yahoo groups, I issued a challenge last fall encouraging others to make blocks for QFK. I would put them together and then send the tops on to the group leader to be long armed and then taken to hospitals. I have enough blocks to make two more tops, and I hope to get them done this week and then the box should be full enough to mail out.

Next I got out the collection of Patriotic Star Swap blocks and started laying them out. I realized I had enough for 3 quilts. I finished one quilt which will be used on my daybed this summer. And the other two tops will be donated to wounded veterans. I am very pleased with how well the blocks went together and how nicely the quilts turned out.

I also finished the 2010 NYE mystery quilt and my husband really likes this one, so it will be used as a living room throw during the winter months.

Next I worked on and finished an old mystery project from a couple years ago. It was one I was not happy with at the time, it would finish too small to be useful to us but we liked the colors and pattern, so didn't want to give it a way. Well, I finally came up with an interesting border for it and it will also be used as a living room throw probably during the spring months. It has lighthouses on it and my husband loves lighthouses. No photo of that one yet, but I'm sure glad to have it done.

And last, but not least, is a new quilt for my daybed, using the eagle panel and coordinating fabrics that is on my list in this group. It went together quite quickly, but I love how it looks. Once I get my camera working I'll be sure to share the photo and I'll probably show you the back of it as well, because the coordinating fabrics for this eagle panel were fantastic.

Now on to the February projects.

Joined UFO Challenge

Well, I haven't done very well with this blog, have I? Now that things are slowing down and winter is here, I plan to keep this updated regularly. The main reason I'm writing today is that I have just joined a UFO Challenge with Patchwork Times. I've even learned how to add a buttom to my Blog, so it's a good day. I have lots of UFO's - unfinished objects - and most of them are listed with a similar challenge from another group. So I have decided to do something different with this challenge. I have a box of fabric panels that I want to make into living room throws or twin bed quilts, so I am listing those for this UFO Challenge. I'll dig them out in a couple days and take photos to share with you. With a little luck, I'll be able to do one a month and by the end of the year, I'll have a nice assortment of new quilts to use as gifts or use in my bedroom, or living room. Wish me luck.

It's going to be fun to post photos and share my progress each month. I want to wish everyone a great 2011. May it be a fantastic year for all of us.

Starting something new

Hello everyone, I think it's time I joined the world of blogs. I hope to add things frequently and keep you all up to date on what is happening in our world here in central Wisconsin.

It's been a busy week for me. I did a lot of sewing earlier in the week on charity quilts and there are about a dozen ready for borders. I hope to put those on tomorrow and get a good sewing session in. My son is home for the weekend and will be driving the combine to help with the corn harvest. That will be much appreciated. He doesn't live here anymore, but when he helps with the harvesting, he often stays the night, so he can work late and start early without the half hour drive back to his place. The only problem with that is the guest room was a disaster. I had been sorting my stash and every surface in the guest room was covered with piles of fabric. So yesterday I spent most of the day reorganizing my fabric stash and sewing supplies upstairs and getting it all into some sort of order. It will be nice to know where things are and to be able to find them quickly. I still have some organizing to do, but that will be a quicker session and I'll wait until I have a quiet day to myself.

Today's been a lazy day, playing with the dog and going through emails. It was sort of my day off, before I go back to a busy day tomorrow. No doubt I'll have to do some extra cooking and baking while our son is here, but that's OK, because he's helping so much with the harvest. Yes, he'll be paid for his time, but we'd rather pay him than someone else, so it's all good. A few trees are still green, but most have changed colors and many of them have dropped all their leaves already. Don't you just love walking through the leaves in fall, feeling them rustle around your feet and hearing the crunch of the dry leaves. It's pretty, but I will have to do a lawn mowing soon and they will be a nuisance. I think we need a good windy day and have them all blow into the fields and away from the lawn. I'll post a photo showing our house in autumn to give you an idea of what it looks like around here at this time of the year.

The next time I'm here, I'll post some photos of the quilts I am working on for Quilt for Kids, and I'll tell you a bit more about why I'm doing so many of them at one time.

We are having a delightful autumn, warm sunny days, bright blue skies and no rain at all lately, so we can get on with the harvesting and do the autumn clean up jobs and get ready for winter while it's still nice out.
